CALLING ALL BOOKWORMS !!!

2010 March 24
by Elizabeth Haddon PTA

Bookworm is a program sponsored by the PTA whereby children can author and illustrate their very own books and submit them to the Bookworm co-chairs for editing and binding! The books then become part of the Elizabeth Haddon library and children are able to check them out, just like any library book! At the end of their 5th grade year, the children are presented with all of the books they’ve written throughout the years. As a writing celebration, only children that have written books this year will be invited to a special assembly in the APR. The assembly is scheduled for Friday June 4th at 1:45pm. Our special guest will be llustrator, John O’Brien.

The last day to submit a bookworm document has been extended to April 5 for submissions to be typed . (This includes emailing files) and 4/23 for completed illustrations.

Interested students can pick up a bookworm instructional sheet located at the bookworm display in the library, or access the forms you need here:

BookWorm Template

Once you have written your masterpiece, you or your parents can email it to the bookworm co-chairs listed below.

You can also drop a written copy in the bookworm box in case you would rather hand write your story …the Bookworm Moms will take care of getting it typed.

Parents: the bookworm committee is looking for volunteers to help with the book-binding process. No prior experience needed!

If you miss the above deadlines…don’t worry ; any documents that are submitted after the dates will be included in next year’s Bookworm program.

If you can help with the book-binding process or have any questions please contact:

SCHOLASTIC BOOK FAIR 2/23 to 2/26

2010 February 17
by Elizabeth Haddon PTA

The Scholastic Book Fair is coming to Elizabeth Haddon School –Tuesday, Feb. 23 through Friday, Feb. 26. This year’s theme is “Book Fair Diner: All You Can Read.” Information went home with your child two weeks ago outlining all the events and activities we have planned to celebrate books and reading. You can find the entire Book Fair packet on the Paperless Portal and the EHSPTA website at www.ehspta.org.

Don’t forget to mark your calendars for the two family night events we have planned. On Wednesday night (Feb. 24), the APR will be transformed into a real game show studio! The host will pose grade-level appropriate trivia questions to teams of EH students. All students will have a chance to participate in this exciting, competitive atmosphere!

On Thursday night (Feb. 25), Book Fair fun continues! Students are encouraged to invite a grandparent, aunt, uncle or any special person to shop with them at the Book Fair “Blue Plate Special Person Night.” Everyone making a Book Fair purchase will get a ticket entitling them to make their own ice cream sundae in the APR!

The Book Fair will be open for business both evenings from 6 to 9 p.m., in addition to school-day and after-school hours.
